There is no way of decreasing the bottleneck.

You should get a new CPU and motherboard combo.

Then you gotta use that.

Overclock that CPU to max. Make sure you have a good cooler.

But even with a good overclock, There will be a huge bottleneck.

i run my 970 stix using msi afterburner with power at 110%, core clock + 100 and memory +100 stable in everything other than elite dangerous... i prob could push it higher (I've heard people run the stock clocks to over 1500mhz) but that would create shit tons of heat and fan noise. Since you have a CPU that will bottleneck it to hell, its really unnecessary to overclock it.

Very helpful.

I got a 970 as a Christmas present, but the rest of my system is kinda sh*t:

FX-4170(with 212 EVO)

GA-970A-DS3

Can you help me decrease the bottleneck?

What frequency do I aim for? Max safe voltage?

With that chip, the only way to decrease the bottleneck is to overclock it. As for the frequency, we don't know. Overclock it and see what result you get.

Merry Christmas!

Each chip differs when it comes to OC.

He has to try the OC step by step.

Even if he get 5Ghz on that chip, there is still gonna be a bottleneck.

I don't have the time to play with the settings. Is 4.5 GHz possible? With that 4+1 phase mobo. I remeber that I got to 4.4 with OverDrive a long time ago... Maybe the first 2-3 months after I got it.

You gotta play with settings.

Don't play with voltage settings unless you know what you're doing.

still recommend upgrading... to keep up with the 970, you need atleast an i5 (or a jackpot g3258) otherwise the 970 would be a waste
