Installing a Samsung 950 pro z97 chipset.

Sniper Xls

Hey guys as its Christmas looking to upgrade my SSD storage. Looking at a 950 pro to fill up my m.2 ssd drive.  I have a few questions is it any different than installing to a normal SSD drive? Or is there some tweaks I need to do? Thanks!

What motherboard? Most z97 motherboards have the slower 10GBps pcie 2.0 m.2 slot. Some do have the faster pcie 3.0 version. This difference will actually cause a drive such as the 950 pro to be bottlenecked by the older m.2 slot version.

You can always get a pcie riser card and plug it in that way.

Running an MSI Gaming 7 Motherboard Yeah I know it will be slowed to around 700mbs but I plan to upgrade to cannonlake and hopefully unleash it but I can get a very good deal on the drive so hence why I am tempted plus windows 10 needs a fresh install for my system may as well kill two birds one stone !

More like 900MBps, but that's still less than half the drives rated speed xD Might as well get it for a good deal now even if it will be "slow"

Well I hope to keep this drive for now but 900Mbs is still a decent upgrade over a normal SSD
