I have finished my first build since I used to build computers with my dad in the late 90s. I didn't do a lot of planning and I changed my mind a few times so it's kinda all over the place. Here's the build:

Case: Thermaltake Versa H22

Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 5

CPU: Core i7 4790k

CPU Cooler: Coolermaster TX3

RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB(2 x 8GB)

SSD: Samsung Evo 850 250GB

HDD: WD Blue 1TB 7200rpm

GPU: MSI GTX 960 4GB

As for my current display it is a 27 inch 1080p 60 Hertz vizio smart TV.

I put this in the video card topic because that's the biggest weakness I see(save for my display) but feel free to offer up ANY suggestions.

I thought about just getting a 2nd 960 4GB. Also this build is primarily for 1080p gaming, maybe 1440p if I can do it cheap enough. I definitely want to upgrade to 144 Hertz, however.

Any suggestions would be awesome and let me know if you need any other information.

Ehh should be gotten i5 4690k, but you're all good. If you plan to move up to higher resolutions, preferably go with an R9 390, or if you have money, XFire it or get a 980to, or get a Fury X

That´s not true. With the 4790K he made a smart choice, because we are going to see more multi core games in the next time. The i7 will then eat the i5 alive. Just because it´s been a good choice for a long time doesn´t it stays like that forever.

Thanks for the quick replies.

If I just stick with 1080p @ 144hz would a 2nd 960 get me to that 144 fps or am I just going to have to suck it up and replace the card altogether?

Edit: Oh yeah my psu is 750w. That kinda matters I guess lol

Nah you don´t want a 2GB card at all. It´s just no sweet spot anymore. Sure mostly you´d be fine for now, but that´ll change in the near future. Games become more and more demanding in terms of VRAM. Certain games go easy over 2GB VRAM already in 1080p. The R9 390 would be a solid choice here.

Intel i7 7820X (delidded) @ 4.9GHz - MSI X299 M7 ACK + EKWB Fullcover Block - G.Skill Trident Z 32GB @ 3466MHz - nVidia Titan Xp + EKWB Fullcover Block @ 2.1GHz - Samsung 960Pro 2x - WDD Blue 2TB - Seasonic 750W Platinum - modded Corsair 600C - Hardtubed Custom Watercooling

I've got the 4gb 960. I'd be getting a 2nd one.

Also I got that i7 on sale, $50 off. I think it was a smart choice.

Edit: So I just found out that my i7 only has 16 pcie lanes and I'm currently using a WiFi card. I either have to get an adapter or remove the WiFi card and buy a really long ethernet cable. Considering the issues with sli as well I will likely just stick with a single card. Thanks for the help, I will likely go with the R9 390 if a 750w psu is good enough for it
