Hello I have WD External Drive and it stopped working. It's out of warranty so I opened it to actually check what happens inside.

Is there a way to still fix this? Pls dont suggest bringing to repair shop coz it might actually cost higher than buying a new one. Thanks in Advance!

Uhm, generally it's not a good idea to open up an HDD, you might actually have broken it in the process, and I don't think anyone is going to be willing to fix it for you, without you dropping some serious cash on you. There is a WD rep on the forum, but I don't remember his name right now, but if the topic is tagged with Wd or western digital, I think he might show up.

Unless there's something seriously important I suggest droppping it, and buying a new one.

Well yea there are some files there I need to get so I do hope to somehow be able to revive it for even just an hour.

Well it makes me cringe to see an exposed drive like that, what exactly happens? do get any kind of access at all? When a drive fail, it often do so spectaculary, my brother's old HDD started "forgetting things", suddenly stuff disappeared, my father's drive just started making weird noices that I took as an omen, and quickly backed up all folders before the drive failed a week later.

I'm not an experienced data recovering kind of guy, I back my stuff up across a laptop, a desktop and an external HDD. You can however get Recuva from piriform for free, as long as you can search the drive. This is by no means a sure thing, data recovery is very hard. If you really need it, you'll might just have to have a data recovery firm get it back for you.

Before it still shows the drive when I plug it in. But I dont have time to repair it so I let it be for months. Now it's not showing anything on my PC when I plug it in. I checked youtube on how to fix certain issues that's why I checked inside if my issue is same with the youtube videos but it seems not. There's a beeping sound and the arm goes back to its place as seen the video I took.

Sorry, but when drives start to fail, speed is essence, and it seems you're in the deep end now. I have no idea how to fix your current issue, and you're probably looking at a big bill from a professional at this point, should have tried backing it up before.

That's so unfortunate..

So there's nothing I can do with this drive? Maybe I can tear it down and make the shiny discs a decoration to my room. Lol.

I took the disks from a 100 MB drive and used them for target practice in the back yard, not recommended because the air gun I used didn't have enough force for the bullets to stick, they came back.
