So I have a poopy TV and a pretty jank PC with the following specs in my room:

Athlon X2 7750 Black Edition

HP OEM Mobo

4GB DDR2

PNY GT 610

320GB Fujitsu Laptop HDD

220W HP OEM TFX PSU

All mounted on a sheet of plywood.

I used to use the PC for like Netflix and stuff but I find that it's way more convenient to just use my desktop rig. So, I want to turn into a dedicated folding rig, but with a catch. It's gotta look appealing, ya know? Like you walk in and the PC is working, but you can look at the TV and see the stats and CPU and GPU load and stuff.

What OS should I throw on there? Anything really, just something simple to install and will fully support the F@H client, along with something to monitor the PC hardware. And depending on what OS you guys recommend (which I assume will be some form of Linux), can you give me a guide as to how I can get set up and folding on that OS?

Thanks!

What exactly is that? Is that the monitoring thing I wanted?

Yep.

Linux with a custom i3 desktop and conky will look smonk asf.

But if you had a better GPU (no offence), using windows and the better drivers will be a good option and Rainmeter is easy to set up and use as well.

I don't care about the performance, it's more for looks as it's way better to have it folding than sitting on my shelf just collecting dust (since there's nothing on the HDD).

Yep.

But can I make it like MSI Afterburner where it has little real time line graphs and stuff?

A software for custom desktop gadgets tools ext. Here is mine:

Conky on Linux is much more useful and can do it in  much more detail. but Rainmeter is easier to use and configure.

Oh cool. Is it on Ubuntu?

And does the F@H client run well on Ubuntu?

No, but you can use Conky.

F@H is finicky on Ubuntu, but once you get it going, it works great!

Linux is universal my boy, once you can work the gcc, the world works for you, git clone and compile all day long.

Getting conflicting opinions here. What I'm taking away is that if I know my way around Linux I can get it all operational and pretty looking?
