Upgrade Path

Hello so my friend currently has the fx 4100 in his build and wants to upgrade. He wants to go to the fx 8350 but I told him to go to an I5, preferably the i5 4460. He has a budget of 500$ and he wants to max out 1080p. I recommended the R9 380 4gb GPU by Sapphire. Would the FX 8350 be a huge difference in performance for gaming over the 4100 that he currently has? I told him it wasn't and to just go to intel because the AM3+ socket is basically worthless at the moment, especially since he has an fx 4100 cpu. Should he go intel 4460 and R9 380? WIll it be worth it over an 8350 and an R9 380?

He has 500$ to spend. But the thing is he got an expensive motherboard, the MSI 970 one, you CAN XFIRE OR SLI, but there will like always be a bottleneck on strong cards

you gave him the right advice.i5 4460 or i5 6400. whichever is cheaper.

there will be a difference going with the fx 8350 in gaming but not much.couse the single thread performance is about the same. with that budget theres absolutely no reason to stay on am3,since even an i3 6100 would be better for gaming.
