So who would be the mother? Why would Luke abandon her? Why does nobody know Luke has a daughter?

Sure, there are some clues that indicate it, but she could just as well be Leia's second twin...

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

I also think she is Luke's daughter.  There are various hints that appear to indicate that she is his daughter.  At a certain scene in the film, there appears to be something that looks like a tombstone or grave marker near the feet of a certain Jedi master.

The 30 or so years between RotJ and FA leaves a large gap that has yet to be detailed in full.  It could be that Luke was involved with someone while trying to establish a new Jedi Order while Leia was busy helping with the rebuilding of the Republic, so they might not have kept in touch that closely.  Hence few might know that Luke had a child with someone.  Additionally, if she is his daughter, she is obviously younger than someone of her generation related to her.  So when that someone committed a particular act of betrayal, she might have been just a "youngling" at the time and her father had time to hide her.

I'm pretty sure Luke could protect her, it would have been safer than just dropping her on a random scum-dominated world - besides he could just have taken her with him when he vanished. Of course she might be his daughter, but I doubt it went like that. Maybe she got kidnapped.

Yes, assuming that she is his daughter, she could've been kidnapped too.  Or was given to a friend of his tasked with protecting her and they left her on that planet.  Or perhaps he was away from "home" when the betrayal occurred and he thought she perished during the incident.

But assuming again that she is his daughter, while Luke may be powerful he might have felt that she could've been in greater danger remaining close to him while he was on his journey to find whatever he was seeking or fighting off the enemies.

Keep in mind that Luke didn't seem to have received any in depth training of the Jedi arts by Obi-wan or Yoda.  Before the fall of the Jedi Order they had various skills and styles, like the lightsaber combat forms.  OK aside from the fact that the original trilogy was filmed before the prequels and the Jedi mythos was established, I think we can safely say that a lot of knowledge was lost with the rise of Palpatine as the emperor.  So Luke would have had to try and gather as much as he could find, and most of what he found would've been after the Battle of Endor when he had time... hence in this new movie there doesn't seem to be any stylish lightsaber combat forms displayed by the primary lightsaber user.

Anyway these are just assumptions and guesses.  Only time will tell.

But then why not leave her with Leia?

Same reason, Leia might have also been busy with the Resistance and fighting her own battles.

Didn't the resistance form after the betrayal? Should have been at least a couple of years later...

There's an online summary of what happened during the 30 years between RotJ and FA.  Basically though the Rebel Alliance won the Battle of Endor and was able to establish the New Republic they still had to face various factions of the remaining Empire.  I'm certain Leia, Han and Luke in their own ways were very busy with that too.

It's not like the victory at BoE and the death of Palpatine meant the immediate fall of the Empire.

Sure, but I doubt she'd just dump a child on a random planet because she was "busy" - besides she should have recognized her at the very least

Well the thing is, if Rey is indeed Luke's daughter, it doesn't mean the Leia knew of her existence.  Maybe she knew but never met Rey in person before.  It also doesn't mean that Leia was the one who left Rey on that planet.

I also have a feeling that the betrayal happened while Luke was away from wherever it occurred.  Otherwise he would've been able to stop it.  He could've been away to collect forgotten fragments of Jedi knowledge and when he returned all he found was death and destruction.

Why Rey got dumped in jakku. What i think is because of no body on thay planet knows her back ground which is the most safe place to be... if kylos ren went to the dark side and start killing all the people were trained under Luke..u guys get where im i going with this..in the movie Luke went AWOL to look for the temple and there maybe some emotional reason too.

No way. Han or Leia would have already said something about it if that was the case. She's got to be a Skywalker.

I agree, it's pretty unlikely, I was thinking more half-sister, but still. But I feel something like that coming. Could very well be a skywalker.

Bleigh!  Ever hear of AC series?

Can't wait to hear Luke said "Rey i am your father" Rey respond while crying with epic "WHY".. instead of "nooooo". Because we fans have as much why as Rey does. Like why she got dumped on jakku, why the parents never went back to get her. If luke turn out to be the Rey's father,Rey will cry "why did u leave everyone and didn't protect them"
