Photoshop threading

Go to solution Solved by ZetZet,

So, 8320e or i3-6100? Which offers better performance. Only talking performance.

8320e.

Is it multithreaded or single-threaded?

I've heard it both ways, and I've heard that it's both based on exactly what you're doing.

It's definitely both. Just single thread performance helps quickly load things in.

well i3 is cheaper, you should be comparing an i5 to 8320e

i disagree i believe that the i3 would be better since most games are single threaded. also since apperently they are overclockable now :/

you had THE answer you wanted to hear...but IMHO it's the wrong choice the i3 will be faster overall and come on a much better platform with an insane upgrade path.

Photoshop can use lots of cores for certain tasks, but it doesn't use them like video editing where each core has an immediate and consistent effect on performance. In all likelihood you'd see very few differences between the two CPUs in Photoshop, so I'd want to go with the i3 to be on a more modern platform with a [slightly] more practical upgrade path.

''slightly''? lol...i would get a freakin MSI or Asrock Z170 board for cheap one of the cheap ones and i would push the bclk...and later on i would slap an i7-6700K or it's successor on it.

i3-6100 vs FX-8320e:

http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i3-6100-vs-AMD-FX-8320E/3511vs2985

The i3 slap bitch.

Single-core is always more important unless all you do is render 4K videos all day long...

single core: i3-6100 = +67%

multi-thread: FX-8320e = +40%

i know which one i would pick

Highly relevant for performance:

Well, I'm careful with my language because not everyone is going to want/need to drop $350 MSRP (or $419.99 for that matter) on a 6700K that has the same IPC throughput. Based on my own personal experience with Intel platforms with "an upgrade path," I'm usually happy with what I have for so long I skip the upgrades and finally get something new several sockets later.

Single-core is always more important unless all you do is render 4K videos all day long...

That's an excellent point applied to an i3 versus an FX-8320E, and it's equally applicable to upgrading to an i7 later. It's worthwhile for some, not for all.

Fuck it. I don't care anymore. Just going i3. It's not a hugely important bit anyways.
