A8 5500 to i7 920

I'm gonna be switching out my motherboard and CPU (A8 5500) to a i7 920 with a Rampage II Gene. It's been a long time since I've used Intel cpus and I forgot how the process goes when we switch. Do we have to completely reformat our HDD or is there a way to transfer them without removing any files?
