What does the CPU Mode switch do?

Alright so really stupid question here, I have a gigabyteGA-X99-Gaming 5P and theres a switch on the right that just says "cpu mode" ive googled it and found nothing, theres nothing on their site, and theres nothing in the manual about it at all

 

I know its supposed to be for overclocking, but what exactly is it for? I have my CPU overclocked already without the switch so Im not sure what the point is

It might be a switch to set the overclock back to stock, incase you're having issues booting? Not really sure on that though.

From what I know it's used to switch between stock and OC mode.

I found the manual in less than a minute and found exactly what the switch does.

Well yes I know the MB says its an OC switch... but im asking what it does. I know it activates more pins or something but when would I use it

It's for when you want to OC and need a fail-safe in case you mess up, that should be obvious.

That switch, when set to position 2, gives you access to 6 new entries in the cpu voltage control menu.

They are named CPU VL1 till VL6.

It allows you you increase the voltage to allow you to overclock the uncore as well.
