I recently( the same day) downloaded a free anti virus: Avast, later that day I tried to shut down the computer and the screen went black but the power button was still on, I woke up the next day,( not touching the laptop at night) to see the power button pulsing, telling me that it was in sleep, and I had not closed the laptop so I don't know why it did that, any way I pressed the power button and it immediately took me to a "shutdown" screen withe the twerling white dots, it has been doing that since and it's the middle of the day now.

Holding the power button seems to power it off and pressing it again to anisialize start up seems to turn it on and run the laptop properly, is there any way I can fix this my self without consulting geek squad?
