ping issue

hi, i just built my PC about a month ago, and it's been working perfectly. the only strange thing that's been happening is that when i'm playing the new Unreal Tournament game my ping is going up to 250ms in the pre-game stage and when i'm waiting to respawn. during gameplay it goes down to 60ms or so. this has only been happening for about 2 or 3 days maybe. before that my ping would constantly stay between 20ms and 80ms. the only thing i've done in that time is install two anti virus programs, Avast Premium and Malware Bytes Premium. I got the full paid versions, not the free versions. maybe the firewalls have something to do with this problem?

i made a post on the Unreal Tournament forums as well, but i figured i'd see what you guys have to say about it as well.

EDIT: nevermind, i seem to have fixed it. there was an extra cable plugged into my router that wasn't attached to anything. i unplugged it and my ping went back to normal. i 'd like to delete this thread if possible.

Are you using Wi-Fi?

Doubt it has anything to do with your hardware or PC at all, more so with the game itself, do you know where the servers are located for the game you're playing
