HHHHIIIIIII it's christmass time and I'm here to ask for suggestions!!!

 

so my problem is that I would like to present my brother a smarband cause he likes going to run but he never knows how much is he running (distance) and I would like to present him something useful.... But knowing him he would be very pissed if I would have bought something that is too large and not convenient .... Here a question from my noob side: is it obligatory to bring always the smartphone to keep trace of yourself? I was looking at the jawbone up2 but since it doesn't have a screen I was wondering if he had to bring along the smartphone while running to count also the km he was running and the speed ..... cause if it's like that I'm 200% sure he would not like it! is there anything with a screen that of course can be connected to a smartphone but not necessarily???  budget is around 100€ can be even a bit higher but not too much!

I know that the fitbit syncs when you want it to and does not need to be connected
