"PConsole Master Race" -Linus

EmmaMay

to quote Linus in the latest techquickie episode "...maybe one day they will merge together and the glorious pconsole master race will be born"

what would a "pconsole" be?, it is my understanding Microsoft may at some point update XBOX One to allow use of a keyboard and mouse, that being the case if they also enabled a desktop UI on XBOX One would that be the "pconsole"?

You can already use a keyboard and mouse on a console via use of an adaptor.

And it's gotten to the stage now where consoles are PCs, just running a different OS. They're basically the same thing.

a PConsole sounds like a PC with a Steam Link (or similar).

you could game at the PC with a KB&M at a desk, or on a couch with a controller with the same machine.

Basically, except PCs run a more versatile OS. In terms of hardware a console is pretty much a PC. They use AMD APUs, which are also used in PCs.

If consoles become more like PC, or a PC, i dont see a problem for PConsole Masterrace

We are on the verge of hardware and software transformation anyway, so the difference between pc and console will smear. And it will happen in 2016.

Cross-platform purchases (that's effectively what we're talking about) is as likely for games as it is for movies or music. If you buy an album on Google Play you don't expect to be able to download it on iTunes. Same thing with games. The best we can hope for is maybe one of them giving you cross buy between their console and PC.... or for Valve to actually become serious enough about the console space to release a polished product.

Fools think they know everything, experts know they know nothing

A better hardware from AMD particularly...

Magic.

... and a bit of magic software that is even working on a wii U. (fotoshoped)

I envy people living in Australia.

Let that sink in. Props for everyone who remembers the dragon.

How about a PC cloaked as a console? Like, someone thinks it's a console, but really it's a PC [emoji4]

Define "console". Modern day console is essentially a small factor PC design purely for living room gaming
