Very Low R9 290x Crossfire Performance

Basically I'm getting an average of 40 that stutters and drops to 20 fps when I should be getting constant 60. (I practically copy pasted this from a dead Tom's Hardware thread that is now dead and no help)

Specs:

CPU: i5 4690

GPU: 2x XFX DD R9 290X 8gb

Mobo: GA Z97x-SLI

Ram: 8gb G. Skill 667mhz

Hard drive: 1TB WD

PSU: XFX Core Edition PRO850W

I know that I should be getting 60fps average. Everything is turned up, except for Nvidia Hariworks. I'm running the 15.12 drivers and my cards are set in Uber mode with a clock speed of 1375. Whenever I run Heaven benchmark I get a score of 2500-600, and get a 60fps on the Shadow of Mordor benchamark at 4K. I also set the EnableTemporalAA=false in the rendering.ini file in the Witcher 3. I get practically the same fps with crossfire disabled. There is also a lot of sudden dips in fps and stutters while playing.

its gotta be that witcher doesn't handle crossfire well or something... the thing to do if you had the cards or the money is try a couple different type of cards maybe team green or lower end cards and see if there is scaling issues there too.

Witcher 3 is a gameworks game so that could be the reason for poor xfire performance

I get practically the same fps with crossfire disabled.

I would guess it's something other than bad CF compatibility or whatever since OP has apparently tried with no CF with the same results.

but that would make sense if the game doesn't utilize the second card then it would preform similarly and I also want to guess that maybe there is a stability issue with the driver and witcher 3? I've never seen that before but it might be a thing

If i'm not mistaken, in-game AA and DynamicWaterSimulation messed up Crossfire scaling, disable those thru config file.

Hmmm, it's only in Witcher 3?

I get around an 11000 on Firestrike which is seemingly low compared to other results. Also, whenever I play Just Cause 3, a game with no crossfire support, I sometimes have massive fps drops, especially in cities, that are embarrassing for my rig.

Did it and I didn't notice a change.
