Depends if you're planning on buying something that requires it.

It all depends. I am sure that USB type C will start hitting the mainstream soon with devices, especially now that Apple has them as their only connector on some laptop/netbooks.

That being said, if your not planning on getting anything with the Type C connection and dont care that you dont have the newest standard USB type, then go without. It really makes no difference.

You dont have to have it but it will come usefull sometime

could you give an example?

i just stumbled upon it, and read that it will be coming to the markets soon, like getting more mainstream, but what's it used for in the like next 6 months?

This may be a horrible example but I'll try.

Think of it like regular USB 3.0. It promised faster speeds for all your connected devices and higher amperage to charge your battery devices. My current motherboard has 4 USB 3.0 ports and it took the better part of a year or more until devices came out that would take advantage of 3.0.

To this day the only thing I own that takes advantage of USB 3.0 is a single 32GB flash drive that I maybe use once a year and it does noticeably charge my phone faster then USB 2.0, but needed drivers installed to use properly. Other then that someone like me gained no real benefit with USB 3.0

Now take 3.1 type C into example and look at what it offers. Even faster transfer speeds and even more amperage to charge your devices. Do you personally plan on buying 3.1 versions of all your current devices or are you currently satisfied with your USB 2.0/3.0 experience. USB 3.0 still hasn't taken off fully. Even though 3.0 is fully backwards compatible with 2.0 you don't see motherboards out there that has only 3.0 ports on them. So what do you expect to be any different with 3.1 type C.

I think it will take a while to take off, the bulk of PCs are still sold without one, so it will be a while before type-c only devices will become commonplace. Also the main advantage of type-c is the power it can carry, not much of an advantage for an immobile desktop always within reach of power. I'd get it on a mini-ITX system, but for everything larger I'd put money on an expansion card being available if it really takes off, so wouldn't pay much extra for it.
