GPU Resurected itself overnight?

Go to solution Solved by xTheEc0,

Just done Unigine Heaven Benchmark 4.0 .. TWICE.

Extreme preset with 8x AA 1600x900 windowed (yada yada default settings for extreme preset)

It lived tru, but the ammoun of stuttering and screen tearing.. i haven't seen so much in my life.

Average FPS 28.2 Score 711. Min 7.1 Max 64.3

Im gonna try a game now. I have DiRT Rally. That has built in benchmark. Lets see how it goes.

EDIT: As soon as I posted this and went to watch the video that kameshss posted GPU died AGAIN.

Good thing i haven't cancelled my order.

I posted here yesterday asking about new GPU's because mine died. LIKE THIS (IMGUR LINK)

Well, after sleeping overnight, I turn on the PC and there's not a single white horizontal line on screen, both monitors working, afterburner/windows detect that I have GTX570 while yesterday I had "Microsoft video adapter". Everything seems back to normal...
But I'am scared.. and confused...

Does it mean it cooled off and its good for 2 hours of being a facebook machine?
Does it mean I can cancel new GPU's order?

I need to know what to do ;...;

EDIT: Downloaded Unigine Heaven 4.0 to test my card to see if it dies again. Is that a good idea?

holy Sh*t, that's scary actually haha,

I'd test it again, just to see if its maybe a cooling problem

Confirmed visually and by software that GPU fans are spinning, so that shouldn't be an issue ?

But it is sitting @ 57C idle.. On the other hand, it is quite hot in my room.

i'd look to the cooling for sure, maybe clean the card and reapply thermal paste and look again?

Please, follow your own posts and mention me in comments, otherwise i won't be able to help you.

This happened to my 6790 way back when it died. I was playing and my display had lines sorta similar to what you had so I turned it off and examined it. I found nothing wrong as the capacitors didn't blow up and it didn't smell burnt so I just cleaned its fan and reapplied the thermal paste. I left it for 12 hours and when I plugged it back in, it worked again but when I started the game, it crashed again at about 5 minutes into the game. So I got fed up and just replaced it.

So yeah, try slowly stressing your video card (by playing a game or something) to see if it's stable.

Real game or a synthetic benchmark like Unigine Heaven 4.0 will do ?

Yeah I figured we're on the same boat. You could try putting it on the oven however to try and re-solder the joints. It's usually a last resort for dead cards as you have nothing left to lose. Surprisingly though, the success rate is quite high based on the stuff I read so it might be worth giving a shot if you still need your card. I personally haven't done it as I didn't have an oven to begin with and by the time I found a friend who does, my new card was already delivered.

Sadly I don't have an over either. Even if I did, i would need to get Isopropyl alcohol and new thermal paste, and that would probably take the same time to get as a new card...

I guess i will let it sit for another night, and maybe use the pc as facebook/movie machine (hoping it wont die again under no/low load) while i wait.

Now i gonna sit tight for almost a week to get my new card : /
