Help Upgrading to SSD

Hi there,

First time poster here, and I have somewhat of a problem/question.

On Black Friday, I purchased a Samsung 850 EVO 250GB for $90 CAD (actually my parents did for Christmas) and now I'm am trying to figure out the best way to upgrade. I currently have a ASUS ROG G771JM, so it has room for two 2.5 inch drives and one m.2 SSD. It has a 750GB HDD in it right now with my OS and all my games, files and stuff. It came from Canada Computers with the HDD being split into a 180GB partition for the OS, and a 400GB partition for Data.

Being the foolish college student, I only put my steam games on the Data and the rest went on the OS drive. So basically to allow me to have as much room on the SSD for a couple games, I want to just have the OS on the SSD (and a couple games) and put all the data, like the program files, my documents and all those files with the steam games on the Data drive. I then want to merge that empty 'old' OS area with the Data to gain my 750GB back for storage. And also the recovery area of the drive, how is that moved to the SSD?

Basically what I am trying to find out is what is the best way to clone the drive and move all the files to the Data drive while keeping my current installation of Windows 10. I will most likely be putting it in this weekend, so I am just trying to prep so it is quick and easy.

Thanks Everyone!

Dont clone as that wont work at all.

Just do a fresh install download the ISO from microsoft for free and legally. Reinstall os on your ssd and reactivate using your key that you had from the original one ( or if your windows 10 it auto does it). Then just format the one partition from your old hdd and there you go :) merge the two together in disk manager if you need more space.

So this laptop came with Windows 8, do I just install Windows 10 and it will find the key in the BIOS? I believe it is embedded in the BIOS, but this is my school/gaming computer so I can't have much down time, so I want to know to be sure.
