HDMI audio extractor?

Would this http://www.amazon.com/ViewHD-Extractor-Support-Converter-VHD-H2HARC/dp/B00LKF6CPG/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1450312637&sr=8-9&keywords=hdmi+optical+splitter

cause any problems?

Would it work fine if i hooked my PC hdmi to it then conected the optical to my 5.1 receiver?
Would it still have 5.1 support from games?

Wouldn't cause problems, would still have 5.1 support via the Optical.

Your Graphics card would need to support 5.1 audio out via HDMI, though.

Yeah, it does,

but the problem is games dont have good support for surround via optical, but work fine over HDMI, and I think this might fix that?

That's generally just a Windows/Audio Driver issue; games pay no attention to what audio device you use.

But yes, if you have trouble getting 5.1 to work over optical, this would be a bit of a workaround,

It probably won't fix it, because the extractor won't re-encode the stream to an SPDIF-compatible format like Dolby Digital or DTS.

It says it does DTS and dolby digital

Yes, but that is IF the stream over HDMI is in that format.

You need to use Dolby Digital Live or DTS Connect to encode audio into either of those formats and stream that via HDMI for this to work. If you already have either working, then there's nothing stopping the user from doing that over the PC's SPDIF output to begin with.

Most games output in Multi-channel LPCM, which cannot be handled correctly by this device (it is limited to ARC-supported formats).

Oh.

Guess I'll just need to get a working receiver.
