Should I upgrade my phone's OS?

AlTech

Sorry for the clickbaity title but i need more people seeing and responding to my questions.

SO my question is this: Should I download the Latest Windows 10 Mobile Insider preview build or not? And if so, should i go for Fast Ring or Slow Ring?

Some info:

This is my daily driver phone (which is why i'm asking cos otherwise i wouldn't hesitate).

My Phone is the Lumia 640 XL dual sim LTE. It is unlocked. I am a Windows Insider so i can do this if i want.

For reference here's my current OS version - Windows Phone 8.10.15148.160 (Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 with Lumia Denim)

EDIT: Gotta love Microsoft's long ass version number! :)

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

Windows 10 Mobile is supposed to be released soon, right? Then imo, there's no point in installing the insider preview now. I'm tempted to try it too, but I can wait a few weeks and I have only one WP device.

I was testing the Preview Builds (slow ring) for a while and I've got to admit, they're pretty good; they're getting there. Sure there's the occasional bugs here and there but that's to be expected.

As a Windows Phone user for 2 years I recommend you give the Slow Ring updates a go. After all, if you don't like it or if you have issues with it, you can revert back to your original OS version (Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2) via the software removal tool by Microsoft.

Give it a go, or keep it a surprise for the official launch!

IDK it was supposed to be (according to major leaks) released 1 day ago. But it wasn't and I'm really wanting to use 10 Insider. I just want to know if it's stable enough or not.

Didn't they say that Windows 10 Mobile will be released within the Windows 10 time-frame? Or was that HoloLens? If so, the latest we could expect to see the official release is July 29, 2016

A friend of mine had issues with it on his Lumia 630 a few months ago, but I guess it's more stable now. If you really want to try it now, I'd suggest choosing the slow ring.

I don't even have WP 8.1 Update 2 available. :D

I've already tried a slow ring build like 2 months ago and it wasn't exactly pretty. It went south really fast! If i do a backup now then will i have to re-enter school wifi password again if i roll back? Cos the IT technicians are probably pissed off since i reset my phone last time I was done with insider (had a backup).

Do you know how small the Mobile team is? It's freaking tiny! And also Windows 10 Mobile will probably not come until 2016. For ever 3-4 Windows 10 Desktop builds there is 1 Mobile build. Development rate is 4x slower and so Microsoft originally in April targeted October but they couldn't do October so they pushed it back to December and Microsoft has a few days left before closing for the holidays (development stops during holidays such as Christmas). So either we get a half assed version with some bug fixes + the latest build or we get it in January or February.

Yeah, that;s 2 months or so ago. Back then it was about adding in the new features, now it's about refining the performance.

Nah, you think. It's a preview build - not a completely polished OS. Of course it has issues.

Very true, after Microsoft's CEO Satya Nadella laid-off most of the Windows Mobile team; after that fiasco that was Steve Ballmer and the purchase of Nokia.

You should have done what I did; after the IT Administrators of the school I go to gave us the Wifi password (only seniors get it - Yrs 11 & 12) I saved it in OneNote. Now it doesn't matter if I reset my devices cause it'll always be in the cloud.

I know my engineering teacher has the password but IDK if it's the same since teachers have their own wifi network. The Wifi networks are divided by year group and staff.

You're lucky my friend. Till you get to the senior years here, no Wifi within school (only on the school provided desktops, laptops and tablets).
