Set network connection priorities for Win 7

I use an ethernet connection for my laptop normally, but still need WI-FI when it is not plugged in (duh). I've tried setting the ethernet to the prefered network and telling the WI-FI to connect to a prefered network first, but it still uses the slower WI-FI when the ethernet is plugged in and I have to manually connect to the WI-FI when it is unplugged. Is there a way to have it only connect to WI-FI if the ethernet is unplugged?

Hey, by default it should choose Ethernet over wifi, if not most laptop's have a disable wifi switch key (on keyboard or side) you may wish to toggle. If you do not like that solution you may wish to follow this guide (http://superuser.com/questions/247601/make-windows-7-ignore-wifi-when-ethernet-is-available) showing how to reprioritize the connections.

Thanks, I'll try that. When both were connected it seemed to use the Wi-Fi for file transfers for some reason, we'll see if it cooperates.

Hmm should not do that as I have laptop running win7 and it uses Ethernet when plugged in and wifi when unplugged.

Yeah, it appears to use the ethernet primarily, but then randomly starts using the Wi-Fi for things occasionally
