Heyo,

Situation: Used my PC for half a day, everything was fine. Went to work. Came back later in the evening/night, turned the system on and was met with a screen telling me that my SSD was bad, should be backed up and replaced. It was this "American Megatrends" BIOS page thing (don't know too much about BIOS related things and all) and it was that page that registered all my devices, including said SSD.

However, it offered to take me to the BIOS where I could check boot priorities and all. Instead of doing that I opened the system up and checked wether a cable on my SSD was loose or something else had happened to it. After re-securing everything, I turned the system back on and got the same problem.

Now my thought process. What if, in the BIOS, I just told the system to boot on the SSD anyway? I did. And now I'm here. However, what could be the meaning of this? Admittingly, the SSD was not secured properly for the couple weeks of me owning it because I'm just waiting for all my parts to arrive to move the entire system into a different case and upgrade some hardware, so I didn't bother. I hoped it would be fine since there are no moving parts in it.

What could happen now? I'm kinda scared of my SSD just giving up entirely any time now and losing a lot of data. I'm gonna back up whatever is important straight after posting this, but is replacing the SSD the only choice I have? Also, is there any decent OS/Boot drive data transfer software I could use when playing the SSD?

What was the exact error you got?

Make and model of your SSD?

There wasn't an error persé, it just listed all my devices and all the way on the bottom is said something like "S.M.A.R.T.  [....] KINGSTON Drive is bad. Backup and replace." if I recall correctly.

I'm using a Kingston HyperX Fury 120 GB SSD.

Any SMART error is bad. RMA it/Replace it.
