Personally I wouldn't do it

This is just me and my suspicions but I would think that coating the metal with paint would reduce the thermal conductivity of the whole heatsink

I have no citations to back it up or whatever, but it makes sense

For black motherboards there are things like the Asus Sabertooth Z77, which has an 1155 socket, but honestly is a waste of money

There are also things like the ASRock Z77 Extreme 4 which are solid boards, but you have things like the cold caps so it's not entirely black

Actually, the ASRock Z77 Extreme3 is basically fully black, and it's on sale right now too (http://ncix.com/products/?sku=76791)

Painting something that will heat up is a SUPER bad idea. They tell you in the Warranty Agreement that it will void your warranty.

I would go with a black mainboard an ad some white with cables cpu cooler etc.

Or, but I have no idea how this would turn out, you could by an ASUS Sabertooth Z77 take off the Thermal Armor and it. Just an idea...

painting it would insulate the metal, however there are way's to "dye" the metal, but you will actually change the chemical properties of the metal and therefore affect it's thermal conductivity.

With painting, you will create a layer that will insulate the heat, unless you are going to powdercoat. This will give a small enough layer that will transfer heat correctly as it used to be. But that will.cost a lot of money.

And yes, it will effect your temps with a bad coating.

Depends what they're made out of

If it's aluminum you could get it reanodized or whatever

what they really say, don't paint your motherboard

If you are going to do it, do it properly and get them anodised. With the right tools and chemicals you can do it in an afternoon at home.

Here's an aftermarket heatsink that comes black.

And why not get a Corsair Hydro or NZXT Kraken water coolers? They come black and look pretty sleek in my opinion.

He was talking about painting the heatsinks on the motherboard, for the chipsets and things, not a CPU heatsink

Don't paint them.

paint will insulate and will result in bad temperatures. try to get them to a anodizer, that should not affect the performance since the color is 1 molecule thick.

but just don't do it. it isn't worth the hassle.

I want to build an all black/white building but there is no all black 1155 board i know . So... i want to paint the heatsinks on the gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3 or UD5 .Does anyone have experience with painting heatsinks etc. (excuse my english ' date='im german ^^)[/quote']

the MSI Z77A MPower prolly has the least amount of "accents 3 pieces (stickers)" for a black out mainboard.

but to insulate the aluminum with a coating of primer/paint would not help the cooling situation

of the MOSFET heatsinks, RAM cooling fins, or any other thermally conductive material.

as to the MPower, the yellow accents can be removed (warranty issue) or recovered to desied color.

I would not suggest ano for a heatsink. and if you found one that is already ano'd and you strip it (using lye to remove the aluminum oxide layer) you will jeopardize the structural integrity.

None of it is a good idea. just find one that looks the best for your build.
