Good & Cheap Dual LGA775 Serverboard?

MDPS

Hello LTT!

I'm going to be doing a class project in which I'm assembling a server. I have a really strict budget, and as a result am going to be using really basic and old parts. Unfortunately, I'm new at server assembly and so don't know what exactly I need that differentiates from a regular computer build. Right now I'm looking for a dual-socket serverboard to fit two Xeon E5420s for around $50 or less. My hopes of scouring Ebay and the like with my limited knowledge have failed, so any help in finding a decent one would be great! Thanks!

Specs for mobo (not too picky):

-Two LGA775 sockets

-minimum of 2 RAM slots

-Onboard Graphics

-Atleast one PCI slot (for a RAID card)

So just OS difference? Thanks. But with my limited budget, I wasn't able to find anything. Was hoping someone could help.

well, if you are fortunate to live near a popular datacenter location, try and find local tech auction sites.

datacenters sell their old servers (minus hard drives usually) for peanuts because its cheaper than throwing them in the trash.

There was only one dual LGA 775 board IIRC which was the Intel Skulltrail D5400XS. Which required Core 2 Quad Extremes and good luck getting your hands on those.

Why not get a Dual 771 motherboard, they would be easier to find and you won't have to mod it at all.

There's a huge performance difference between LGA771 and 775, though I'll probably have to use it if what @Sam Z Man said is right. BTW, how does this LGA771 board look? http://www.ebay.com/itm/DT031-Dell-Precision-490-Socket-LGA-771-ATX-Desktop-Motherboard-/141798855806?hash=item2103ded47e:g:LQ0AAOSw14xWGnzb

Okay I can try it. What mobo would you suggest for that setup?
