Game servers need good connection?

Just wondering if you were to build your own game server, would you need a good internet connection (mines 1up/10down).

With that connection any clients would get lag for days.

yes it would need to.

with a relatively slow connection there would be so much lagg.

even on mine (75 MB/s down 125 MB/s up) after 15 friends joined a minecraft server, there was some lag

well, it depends on the game, and the amount of people.

 

but i'm gonna make it really simple: if its for anything more than "playing with one or two friends" get it in a datacenter.

Already have, just don't like paying the $30 a month... So was thinking about making my own server with parts I got lying around, it would be like a 50 man FPS server.

 

So guessing it's not possible, I pay for the fastest internet plan also

well, you may be renting a too beefy server, or renting from an overly expensive place.

Well if I rented outside Australia, I would get 250+ ping... (country's in asia= 100). But the reason I pay so much is for server control (FTP) and conversion USD-AUD.

well... i'm guessing you're renting a game server directly, right? (as in, you rent it, and it comes preloaded with the game you want to play)

if you do, thats bad.

rent a VPS, they can be ridonkulously cheap.
