Best 7970 overclock card?

What is a good 7970 card for overclocking, looking at the gigabyte one but it has locked voltage :(

I like the color scheme of Noctua fans. Deal with it. Forget about the bad memories of the past.

Asus 7970 Matrix. Pair it up with an Extreme board and you can VGA Hotwire it to Over volt.

Oh yeah! i forgot all about the Matrix!

You went from a 7970 to 770? Stretch your budget by $50 and you'll get a 7970 Matrix Platinum :P VGA Hotwire is actually supported on all current RoG boards.

how do you go form 400 to 450

Maybe on LN2, because of their custom PCB. But on air or water they pretty much suck. I haven't seen a 7970 Matrix on air or water put out any overclocks over 1300Mhz one the core, yet a lot of reference cards can do it on water. If they used binned chips then I could see the the advantage, but they don't. I would suggest taking a look at the OC.net forums and see how many happy Matrix users there are.... One guy even broke his in half is sucked so badly :) Don't buy into the matrix hype.

i went with a Sapphire 7970. it was 309USD before 20USD rebate. clocked it to 1150/1525 without increasing voltage. runs cool and quiet. also it is voltage unlocked, make sure of this no matter which card you choose.

Get a 2nd hand proven beast overclock reference 7970 and watercool it. It's all about silicon lottery. Some guy mentioned Matrix, no... just no.

Maybe because this is a $475 card that is no better than a $350 card....

 

price aside 1.3ghz is a very high and impressive oc.I read that the matrix has a very noisy cooler so that alone turns me off and the price defiantly is to high i agree.
