When I try to boot from disk to reinstall windows, or i am in the bios setup screen, my pc randomly shuts down. Also the powersupply is making a loud clicking sound, like the fan is hitting somthing. But the sound gets louder or quiter.

The computer used to be very fast, but is now very very slow.

I think the powersupply is faulty, what should I do?

If you can, swap out the PSU with another (from a friend or spare one you may have).

If the computer then boots and runs correctly, it's definitely the PSU. However, if it's randomly shutting down and the PSU is clicking, I'd probably guess that the PSU is knackered and that you should RMA if you can and buy a new one if you can't.

What make and model is your current PSU?

Well its my friends pc and im not sure, yet. There are no logos or anything on it its just black with a sticker on the side with like voltages.

EDIT: Specs are:

Intel core2 duo 4400 @2ghz

4gb ram

Nvidia GeForce 8800 GS

Im not sure what motherboard it is, I can find out later

EDIT 2: My friend also asks that if it is the power supply, then why would that make it really slow? (or at least slower than it was)

the pc is also 6-7 years old
