Hey guys, I am trying to find the quietist GTX 970 after trying EVGA GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0+ and it sounding like a leaf blower even @ 500 RPM i am trying to find quietist GTX 970 for my silent build, I have done some search and came up with two cards that I think are the Quietist ( if you know any cards that are quieter please let me know ) the picks are

MSI GTX 970 GAMING 4G

and ASUS GTX 970 STRIX

I have read multiple reviews and I am leaning towards MSI, but I wanna make sure since returnig graphics cards can be nearly impossible @ Newegg. Anyone use both and can give me there opnion and on which one is the quietist or has anyone find a quiter GTX 970 then these two?

MSI R9 390 8G is the quietest and best performing GTX 970.

This or the triple slot power colour one.

The triple slot one is a 390x2. Some say its the most powerful 970 on the market.

Although two separate 390s are more powerful and cost effective than the 390x2.. I'd go for two of those 970s c:

I have pretty much the same card in my system right (I have the non-+ model). And at 25% fan speed (~1,000 RPM), then it's very audible. But I wouldn't call it leaf blower-loud in the slightest.

If the GPU fans are only spinning at 500 RPM, then it is likely that they do not have to spin at all. I.E. that the temps aren't high enough for them to start spinning. I'd personally still recommend the EVGA coolers.

Why is everyone making such a fuss about the 390? it's more expensive (in the uk) and performs a tad worse...

Unfortunately, the OP lives in the USA and 390's do perform better than a 970.

Sticking to the OPs question for just a second -

On average, the MSI. The STRIX has a bit more of a tendency (in some situations) to ramp up the fan speed, making it a bit noisier under load. This can depend on how well cooled the system is as a whole... but I'd still go for the MSI.

Also, The MSI R9 390 is definitely not the quietest GTX 970. It draws an extra 150W+ over the 970 at load, and has to ramp up the RPM quite a bit more to compensate.

Well... the acx 2.0 cooler is very good but not supposed to be loud, I have a stock nvidia cooler on my card now and it is much louder than the two gtx970 gigabyte g1's I had combined.

Check this review out showing some sound level comparisons

Here

Judging from this information I would lean towards MSI.

Oh, and sure the r9 390 is a very good card, it performs a bit better than the 970. BUT if you want a 970, then get it. Also, the 970 has been around longer so there are some great deals on ebay as well for under $300, in the US.

Funny you should mention those two, because both EVGA and Gigabyte's offerings ought to be quieter, thanks to their more effective coolers. Still, if you had to pick from those two, go for the MSI, because the STRIX has decidedly worse power delivery. Admittedly that won't make a blind bit of difference in performance (or noise) if you're not overclocking the card, but given that the STRIX isn't actually cheaper and the MSI's VRM design does benefit longevity, there's no real reason not to go for the MSI.

That is, unless you consider more than just these two, in which case you should just go for a Windforce or G1 Gaming from Gigabyte...
