Upgrade Today

I'm getting ready to upgrade my UnRAID server today with some new guts at Microcenter. It's currently rocking a:

E2180 @2.0 Ghz

4GB DDR2 RAM

Abit AB9 Pro Motherboard

10TB of Data currently

 

As you can see it is rocking 7 year old hardware and I really want to starting using Dockers/Plex Server and maybe a VM or 2. 

 

My main PC which is my Plex Server/Gaming rig is rocking a:

 

i7 2600k @4.5GHz

Corsair Dominator 16GB DDR3 RAM

EVGA GTX 980Ti SSC w/ Backplate

Corsair 120GB SSD - OS

2TB Seagate HD - Games 

34" Dell Ultrawide @1440p

 

I have 2 options. I could move the components from my main PC to the server and upgrade my main PC. I was thinking a 4790K and motherboard Combo wihich would run me about $400. That is a little more then I would like to spend and I really don't see a huge upgrade over my current setup to justify it. 

 

My second option is to upgrade the server with a Intel G3258 or i3 4170 CPU and a compatiable motherboard. This should run me about $180 since I already have 8GB of DDR3 RAM laying around. This would give my server a much need upgrade bump and I could transcode 1-2 streams if needed. 

 

I'm basically just looking for a little advice and guidance to help make up my mind.
