Laptop Ram Problem Help!

I have a Asus F555lj laptop and has a 4gb ddr3 soldered ram and 1 ram slot for upgrade.I inserted a 4gb samsung ddr3 ram and when i checked, i only have a total of 4 gb of ram,everything should be totaling to 8 gb right? (im kinda new at this) please help

Switch the two ram in the different slots, if that doesn't work just insert the Samsung ram only and if that doesn't work than clearly the Samsung ram doesn't work or is not for the laptop.
