Is a used motherboard worth it? Or should I buy a new one for a extra $50 ?

I some cases yes. But not in the case of the average motherboard you can buy off newegg. Buy new if that is the situation. In the case you want to hot rod an old mac or  you want to throw 6 core Xeons in an old 1366 motherboard or something then buying used can net you a better pc than buying the middle tier of the higher end stuff.
