I know this is probably a really stupid question, but will an am3 aio like the corsair h100i gtx also fit on an am3+ socket what are the differences between am3 and 3+? 

Yes. It will fit 939, AM2, AM2+, AM3 and AM3+. And FM2 for that matter.
