Can I delete Windows.old folder?

Go to solution Solved by WolfDeville,

Just use windows disk cleanup and check clean up system files and from there just check all the boxes you see and hit "OK"

You don't need any third party rubbish like CCleaner or whatever.

I got this massive folder called Windows.old on my SSD and it's taking up tons of space. I ran disk cleanup and removed "previous version of Windows" but it didn't remove the Windows.old folder or make it any smaller. When I look inside I see some folders that look like the root of my C drive but I do't see any installed programs in the folders just stuff that looks like driver installations.

I really could use an extra 10GB of SSD space but I'm not sure if this folder is important or not. I assume I can delete it but I wanna be safe about it and not break my entire installation of Windows.

I normally let CCleaner get rid of it.  There's a checkbox in CCleaner that's like "Old Windows files" and it'll get rid of it for you.  It's just a previous Windows install (I figure you upgraded from like 7 or 8, it's those files)

No I fresh installed Windows 10 and there was a big update I installed today. it treated that update like it was a new version of the OS. Also I don't like using programs like CCleaner.

That is your old Windows installation, you should be just fine deleting it.

I tried that and it didn't remove it, It did clean up a bunch of space but the folder remains.
