GPU Power Problem

Go to solution Solved by tbroadwater2010,

I recently got a new Sapphire R9 390 Nitro, and my old PSU only has 2x6 pin PCI-E connectors. The card has 2x8 pin connector sockets, and I tried to plug 2x6 pins into the power sockets. When I boot the PC the GPU wont start. Is it possible that the PSU is the problem with the wrong connectors? Or am I looking at a possible dead card here (should the fans at least start with 2x6 pins)? I might be getting a new PSU tomorrow with 2x8 pins.

Your card probably wont start up without all the power connectors connected properly. If you need 2x8pin then you have to have 2x8pin connected to it. I could be wrong but ive seen people have the same issue you are with the same setup style.

Did you get and PSU adapters with it?

Nope it did not have any PCI-E adapters.

The PSU was probably the issue then. My PSU did not include any 6 to 8 pin adapters, so I guess a new PSU it is. Thanks to everyone for helping out, and tbroadwater2010 for the detailed response.
