Someone on the lightworks forum said this:

"Screen capture software records in variable frame rate and and Shadowplay encodes with AVC compression. Both things will cause havoc. You need to transcode your source file and enforce a constant frame rate"

Can anyone help me do this or maybe steer me in the right direction.

How can I do this for shadowplay and OBS

First of all, I'm not the most familiar with Lightworks, but I do know how to edit in it. AVC is a little bi*ch to work with. Use a free program like Handbrake (my personal go to safe program) to transcode into H.264 MPEG or MP4. From there, Lightworks should be able to ingest the footage properly. If not, then your storage media may be dropping frames. If you're using slower storage media like a hard drive to record to, then dropped frames will cause variable frame rate. If you're using two or more reliable SSDs (like any Intel or Samsung 850 PRO) in RAID0, or you're using an NVMe, then you shouldn't have to worry about dropped frames due to storage media speed. Try using Handbrake (handbrake.fr) to transcode to H.264 and MPEG.

the problem wasn't frame rate it was that after editing in lightworks the audio was delayed! It happened with many different videos and I had nothing to do with it

Ah, I see. Transcoding into an easier-to-digest file format didn't help?

Ive been transcoding to mp4 this whole time. :/

Again, I'm not very experienced with Lightworks, and I don't think I'll be able to help you. The only other reason I could think is because the video hasn't fully rendered out yet, but I'm assuming you're not stupid and thought of that already (I've done that! Wondered why it wasn't properly playing then went hey the video isn't rendered!) Sorry. :\

If you're looking for something new, jumping right into Premiere Pro is a good place to start. It has many strengths, and the support community is massive. If you have a Hackintosh, then Autodesk Smoke is free for students. Just some suggestions. And if you get Premiere Pro Creative Cloud (the latest and greatest), then you also can get access to programs like Adobe Media Encoder and Adobe After Effects... (i'm not paid to tell you this by Adobe, just fyi :P)
