Okay, so I've built probably >10 computers in the past, all being when I was younger, using super outdated parts at that time (about ten years ago). I knew nothing of cable management them. But enough of that. After years of just having $300-600 laptops and trying to game on them, I've decided to build a pc.

So far, I've bought my case, power supply, CPU, motherboard, and cooler, but I'm limited to buying ~$100 every two weeks when I get paid.

But anyways, what are people's thoughts so far? For somebody whose favorite games were made '97-12, is it a good choice?

I've also got a few pictures of what I have to show my little bit that I have off.

I've started to cable manage, but this case doesn't have the most room for it. Anyone have any suggestions of how to better hide my multi-colored hell?

Flip the PSU over.

Wrap black electrical tape around parts of the wires to cover the multicolored hell.

My only issue with that would be the fact that due to space constraints, it's going to be on carpet under the desk. Unless I get a board or something to give it clearance.

Don't put it on carpet. Find something to set it on.

If you absolutely can't do that, then don't flip the PSU, but you can still wrap the wires in tape.

I would highly recommend NOT using tap on anything inside your PC, as over time the adhesive on the back of the tap will turn to a gooey mass, especially when exposed to heat.

However basically all paint would be fine electrically as long as you only got it on the wires isolation.

Work in the live event industry, had to clean such a mess off wires before, spare your self the pain.

  • 2 weeks later...
  • 2 months later...

So, this has been a long time coming, but I've bought RAM (8gb of hyperX to start with), the 750Ti (which I know most of you will hate, but, hey, it suits my needs), an SSD, some case fans. It runs well for all the games that I play, and the system doesn't look half bad. I'll add pictures in the next day or two, but my current plans for finishing it are 8gb more of RAM, a 1 tb hard drive to replace the dinky 250gb laptop drive I've stuck in as a temporary solution, a modular PSU, and a disk drive. That, and maybe two more fans if I can find a lower profile PWM type 120mm fan.
