Hi.

The point of this build it to be as small yet powerful as possible whilst maintaining aesthetics.

The case: Streamcom FC10 Alpha

The psu: X7-ATX-500

The power brick

The Cpu: i7 6700k with a decent under clock(3ghz? 3.5ghz?)

The Mobo: Asus MAXIMUS VIII IMPACT

The Gpu?: 970, 980, or 980 ti stock cooler with slight under clock

The resolution: 3440x1440

I will be doing mostly video/music production and playing smite/skyrim.

I know a 970 can push smite above 60 at 4k and skyrim is not a problem either. My problem is i'm sure that a 970 wont last like a 980 or 980 ti. For the 980s i could just put them in a new build and overclock. The only games i'm looking out for are the next mass effect and elder scrolls game(for the next year or 2). So i'm really just trying to spend the least long term(gpu wise, meaning 1 gpu instead of 2), though this build is in no way budget friendly.

Info on the psu, follow MiniHack's posts.

I know the psu can handle a 970 with one 8 pin. Each power brick can handle 200(230 max) and each has a 8pin for the gpu.

My idea was to use one 980/980 ti and under clock it to hell(-100/200? from the core clock). My problem is that i don't know if a 980/980 ti can run from 2 different power bricks(12v rails) with one of the power bricks dedicated to it.

The only other psu that could work is the SILVERSTONE SX500-LG 500W SFX-L but i don't think putting a psu like that in a computer with little to no airflow is smart. Let alone the only spot it would fit in is the spot with the least airflow, i can see it overheating with a load.

Has anyone messed with this type of setup?

Can anyone give me some advice?

Aesthetics are key in this build. Ill be keeping the motherboard for overclocking after this build is kaput. I don't mind the gpu reaching 80*, it would actually be funny seeing as my 280 rarely sees 45* at max load where i live(20?* room temp). At one point in time i was all in for the raven series but i'm no fan of plastic or its sad look. The gpu in this case will literally be the only thing getting much of any airflow simply because of the blower style.

Though now that i think about it if i do go with a 970 i can overclock the 6700k to atleast 4.5ghz. It will only have to share 200w with the mobo, ram, ssd and hd. Though the case's integrated passive cooling system probably would push me towards 60*c
