Need help-choosing cpu and ram

Hello!

 

i need help with choosing a new cpu for my computer. I have a Gigabyte GA-PH67-UD3-B3 motherboard currently with an Intel Core i5 2500K and 4GB ram on it. I want to upgrade ram and cpu and i don't know much about computers in general. As far as i have noticed, The ram upgrades with DDR3 DIMM slots  are compatible. The maximum MHz for ram is 1333 whatever that means.

Is there anyone willing to help me out and choose better cpu and ram that are compatible with my motherboard? I want to upgrade my ram to at least 8gb or mabye even 16.

Maybe the best would be to update the motherboard aswell, but ill let the other users of the forum judge on that.

You can go up to a 2600/2700/k and that'd be an upgrade for you but depending on what you're doing I don't think it's worth it.

For the RAM, you can pretty much buy any DDR3 and it should work but I wouldn't go for above 1600MHz. Also the 'maximum speed' you're citing doesn't mean much because that's only what's officially supported when it can generally get pushed much higher on the CPU side and be fine as long as the RAM can handle it.

 

What's your budget and what more do you want to get out of your machine that you can't get now?

As long as CPUs that work with the board are still fast enough and there's the ram upgradability that's needed (and there are no other features missing) I think it's fine.

Thanx for the reply. My budget is about 500 dollars mabye more. I am doing alot of rendering of 3d objects for my schoolwork and gaming. that's basically it. I need a better preformance when it comes to those two. my machine basically slowed down alot over the past few months and I want to update it a bit

You could upgrade alot, maybe get a new Motherboard, (100e), an i5 4670 (200e), 8GB of ram (50e) and maybe a GTX 960 (220e) if you want to upgrade your card for gaming, i don't know what you have at the moment though.

Do a quick craigslist search for "X58" or  "1366" and see if there are any cheap old systems being sold there. If you can scoop one of those up for under 500 you could have yourself a really awesome system, swap in a Xeon and update the GPU and you'll be set. If nothing shows up then go along with something along the lines of what has already been mentioned.
