PNY GT 630 2GB

So I bought a GT 630 just for the hell of it and I am thinking of putting it in my rig to replace my GTX 550TI 1GB. It's performance is almost the same and the power consumption is much, much less.

Here are the raw fraps logs of the games I have tested (BF3 I messed up on it caught the start of a cut scene so ignore that 200FPS the max i have seen in game is around 50 on medium with no AA)

All games are ran at 720P with no AA BF3 is on medium, arma 2 OA is on high with no AA and no PP, and dayZ I shall leave my video settings for to get best FPS in game, since it is not a well optimized game.

2013-08-19 15:07:45 - DayZ
Frames: 21952 - Time: 437598ms - Avg: 50.165 - Min: 19 - Max: 79

Frames: 6815 - Time: 149153ms - Avg: 45.691 - Min: 35 - Max: 54

2013-08-22 22:02:46 - Arma2OA

FSAA=0
Terrain detail is on high
object detail is on high
HDR is on very high

Texture detail is on medium

The GT 630 2GB is clocked at 930 on the core and 675 on the memory, I have never seen it get over 64C under a kombustor load at 1440x900.

The card only cost around $60 US and after rebate it's $40, it's actually not a bad card my 550TI gets similar performance in games but arma and it gets 5FPS more in that. Arma 3 I have yet to test and since it's a physx game i would like to see how that performs.

And also this was to get back at linus for saying their is no point in buying a non-gaming card. This shows that even a non-gaming card can play games pretty well.

I would also like to add I have two 1440x900 monitors and one uses VGA so it's nice having VGA, Dual link DVI, and HDMI. No need for adapters.

The 640 according to wiki is a rebranded 545. The 650 has kepler ark in it so its not a rebrand. Still the 650 is a ripoff by any measure.

Yeah price/performance isn't great better off buying a 7770 or a 7790 for the same price.

Huh? Am I wrong to think that the GTX550Ti is actually a more powerful card than the GT630? It's pointless to have 2GB of VRAM on a GT630 as it's simply too weak to use the VRAM for frame buffer and texture at higher setting. Only advantage I can see with having a GT630 is that it consumes less power than the GTX550 Ti.

How do you work that out?

640 and upwards are Kepler GPU's, the 630 and below are Fermi's

The 640 is not a redone 550 at all

It gets the same FPS maybe 3-5 less in most games I play on the same settings, the 2GB's of vram is good as well since I do use two monitors and you still need more Vram to power a secondary monitor than 1GB at 1440x900 on high settings, but also I am not someone who uses PPAA, FXAA, or MSAA, I don't see any visual difference in games with it, and at it;s price the 630 was a great buy. the 550ti is not being made any longer and are very hard to come by for a reasonable price and have it still hold a warranty. the 550TI does perform better in my experience with games that run Physx, arma 3 for example on medium settings I get 40+FPSon the 550TI but 25FPS on the 630. for the price it's a great card.

I'm sorry, but I believe you do not need 2GB to run 2 monitors, I had a pair of HD5870's doing EF Surround gaming @ 5760x1200 and 1GB was not an issue.

After looking at the Wikipedia page for 600 series, it says that the OEM version of the 660 is GK104 and has a lot more transistors than the normal 660, can someone explain this?

PS: I know it has nothing to do with the review, but it seems no one is keeping on the topic.

OEm? What do you mean by OEM? Like what Nvidia will sell on the very rare occasion? Or what Dell and HP get to put into systems?

LGA775 still has some fight in it, in my 3rd rig, I have a C2Q X9650 @3.7ghz and it owns in games, I do believe I'm CPU bound as I've it with a HD6990 + HD6970 combo doing games at max setting, well, almost all games at max setting @ 1080P. An LGA775 quad @ >3.2ghz is still a potent gaming CPU.

I see no need to upgrade yet, I can livestream, record, and play any games I want, if you look at benchmarks it's on par with a Ivy bridge I3 at stock, and those are good enough for gaming.
