Dumb RAM question

Go to solution Solved by runit3,

Exact same is easiest, matching clock speed and timings is second easiest, w.e. the hell kit you want is fine -you'll just be running at the lowest timings of the two sets.

I got a 2x4GB kit of ram, thre Corsair XMS3 at 1600mhz I think. Say down the road I wanted to upgrade and get another 2x4GB kit, would I need to ge the exact kit again or do I just need to match clock speed?

Well you can mix and match RAM it will run at the lowest rated speed of a single kit but you can run the risk of compatibility at times, Ideally having two of the same kit does lessen that probability a bit.
