My girlfriends brother needs a new PC for as cheap as possible but would realistically be able to play at least GTA V on low settings, games like Battlefront etc. would be a bonus.

How does this system look? I'm unsure on the GPU as I didn't know what was good for under £80.

And is the PSU overkill? What would be a cheaper but reliable option?

Think he'd be better off with an Intel CPU really. Any ideas on a cheaper PSU that will be reliable enough? Or Is that really the best I can get

cheapest I'd go is XFX TS.

7850K is about 5% slower than a i3 4130/4160 but the dual GPU mode will net you a LOT more GPU power and will likely run games a LOT better

But if he wanted to get an i5 later on down the road he'd have the option and as both Intel and Nvidia have less power consumption it'll save him more on the power bill

don't even get me started - i5 consumes MORE power than the 7850K + iGPU - the Athlon CPU part is more than capable for any current game and can drive up to a 290 fine. the 750 Ti and 250X use the same amount of power (both usually have no 6-pin or 1 6-pin) - and a 450W can power an i5 and R9 290X with ease, especially since it's a good PSU. as for power bill - please don't bring that crap up - the difference is 25W - your average light bulb uses 75W

I'll take a crack at a build but I'd be happier with rough £ amount.

Looking at no more than £350

I just feel as if Intel would be a safer bet in the long run, especially since he hasn't upgraded in 5 years and probably won't for another 5

if he's not upgrading the A10 7850K is a better bet - if he's not doing any serious gaming the 860K CPU and 250X CF will be all he needs and soundly outperform the 950

He may not upgrade the entire system but as I say he may need a more powerful CPU later down the line depending on what he ends up doing

he likely won't - trust me. If my friend can last 10 years with a Athlon 64 X2 a Athlon X4 860K is more than okay.

I'll make two separate build lists and see which he prefers, final decision is down to him really

Sweet as, and I had a thought as well, Your friend would be far better of getting a small ssd now then adding a harddrive when he has some extra cash on hand.

The case has usb3 ports but the motherboard doesnt have onboard usb3 headers so an adaptor will be needed and you can pick one up real cheap on amazon i'll have a quick look for you.

Great, thanks! I'll use this as the Intel/Nvidia option. Then use Don_Sveltio's AMD option in a separate list and see which he would prefer

Cool, but try and convince him to get a 960 if he can It will make a world of difference its a fair chunk more but it will last longer, but both builds are pretty solid anyway :)
