Storage reading on android

It's rooted if that effects anything. On my nexus it says there is 13.3gb used and 13gb free. If I check the folders there's only about 5gb used. I plugged it into my computer to check. The internet storage is showing 13.3gb used, but if I select all of the folders (Hidded items are visible too) it shows as 5.10gb. I want my space back!

You are forgetting to add System Data into your calculations.

 

You have  :

 

27GB - 7.6GB = 19.4GB

19.4GB - 5.5 = 13.9GB

 

13.9GB probably 800MB worth of app cache and temp files, that leaves you 13.1GB, exactly what all the systems say you have.  You can't access System Data, but it's of course included in space used

The files are 2.8gb, and the apps don't even fill a second page on the app list (no games). yet somehow I'm using 12.3gb of storage (It shrunk after multiple cleaner scans and a few deletions of downloads.

5GB+ + 7.6GB = 12.3GB used,  I don't see anything wrong with any of the screenshots above.

The OS itself, + any space allocated to the system for patching, temp files, etc. The ROM may only be 1-2GB, but fully extracted can be much larger.  That's why people have been wanting to kill the 16GB version of phones for so long.  Over half of actual storage is used up by the OS itself.

 I just did a reinstall of the OS, non rooted. (I did this because the reason I rooted it wasn't working). Total space used is .94gb. This includes the os and preinstalled Google apps.
