RAM question

Hi, im going to get an i5-6500 with a msi b150 m2 gaming board and i wanted to ask if getting 16gb ram is worth it , should i buy a 1 8gb stick nw and then later or just get 2x4gb? I plan to game and do some light video edit.

i would get a single stick of 8 gigs so you can upgrade lateron. games won't really benefit from 16 gigs much, tough video editing work will.

8GB should be enough. Go for one 8GB stick now, then add another if you find you need more.

Personally I think its worth it for light video editing, as I have done some without the benefit of enough ram and its a real pain. Plus you have the added benefit of more multitasking. So if you wanna have a bunch of tabs open at once with different video editing tutorials, funny cat vids, ect... then you don't have to worry.

 

edit: the others who commented above are right. 8 gigs of ram is "OK" for what your doing, but for video editing its not great, and honestly "great" is what were shooting for by building custom rigs, otherwise we would just buy some mediocre stock computer.

No, you should spend the extra money on an unlocked cpu and a z170 motherboard instead.
