I am planning on doing a build for a gaming PC but am struggling to decide which GPU to use. The intent of the build is for playing mostly CS-GO and possibly some Fallout/DayZ. I keep getting recommended to get the 980 TI but this just seems like absolute overkill and don't understand why it would be worth the extra money instead of just getting something like a 970. I plan on having 3 monitors hooked up however only one will be used for gaming while the others will only be used for web browsing and non intensive functions. Price is not to big of a deal but I just want to make sure I have a good reason to pay the extra money.

I appreciate any help.

R9 390 > GTX 970

(Sapphire Nitro ftw)

DayZ will run shit on any card tbh.

Shot through the heart and you're to blame, 30fps and i'll pirate your game - Bon Jovi

Take me down to the console city where the games are blurry and the frames are thirty - Guns N' Roses

a 980 would work better for 3 monitors than a 970. But if you are buying a 980 you might as well take the step up to a 980ti lol. I 970 will do it, its just that a 980 would work better

depending on what inputs your monitors will have, personally i would suggest anything with display port since most high end cards from 950-980ti have 3 display ports

and for the gpu a 970 should be fine but with a 980ti you could do ultra wide gaming which is awesome

it all comes down to what you want but for what your doing you should just get a 970

OP will only be gaming on a single monitor.

If you won't be playing at anything above 1080p the 970/980 will do just fine, go with the 980 if you want that extra FPS. For CS:GO most GPUs will give you solid performance.

yeah. but still running 3 monitors. which uses vram in itself. So better to have more than 3.5

Hence, the R9 390 recommendation. It's the same price as the GTX 970, and has more vram.
