I understand the US has different GST(goods and services tax) in different states.

Are prices in stores posted before tax? (I think I heard this somewhere)

Where is an online purchase taxed/

How do people post prices, before or after tax?

PS: If there is a better sub-forum  to post this please let me know, I couldn't find one.

The prices you see in stores are before tax. When you buy an item a percentage is added that gets paid at the same time that you buy the item (Note: there is no tax on unfinshed food products, and online orders where there is no warehouse you in your state (a few exceptions apply) -- like NY where you'll pay tax for most if not all online purchases. There are also a few other exceptions -- You don't pay a tax on clothing in NJ/maybe other states as well).

I'm mostly interested in how people post prices. GST in NZ is 15%.

Here all prices (except wholesale) are listed including GST.

So something listed how it is done in US as $1000 is actually $150 more.

Do people say they got a $1000 pc or a $1150 pc?

Well tax in the US is more like 6-9% (most states are 7-8%). And you often won't pay tax on computer parts (or most things) if ordered online. Newegg, for example, only charges tax in NY, NJ, Indiana, and California (they have a warehouse in all of those states other than NY, NYs tax laws just suck).
