Question About FX 6300

So I was wondering if this is a good choice when paired with a R7 370 2gb 

I will do mostly

- Video Editing

- Rendering

- LIGHT AAA gaming

 

Before anyone say anything about "Dead socket and no upgrade path" I have 0 problem when I have to upgrade to get a new mobo and cpu.

Yep. Keep that cooler, the FX-6300 is great for overclocking. For this scenario, it's a great build.

I've had one for a while now, and have it almost stable @ 5GHz on a hyper 212

For your workload it probably is a good choice. However, the motherboard you chose is not. It has a really weak VRM and is know to throttle even at stock speeds. The Gigabyte 970A UD3P is more suitable for overclocking and doesn't cost that much more.

Only change I'd recommend is to bump the memory to 16GB since you're talking about doing editing and rendering.

FX-6300 is the best value chip in the FX line!

 

Yet you want a 6+2 board even if at 95W a 4+2 should do fine if you do not OC like crazy!

 

Also the FX-6300 has a LOUSY stock cooler that barely manages so I would consider something better!

I don't know where you heard that because that really isn't the case. The DS3P has an 4+1 Phase VRM while the UD3P has an 8+2 Phase VRM. This difference is huge for overclocking.

get the UD3P if buying a Gigabyte board, the DS3P is only 4+1 phase and CAN NOT OC.

 

the best mobo price wise is the ASRock 970m PRO3. It cannot OC more then 4.2GHz at max, but it costs only 65 bucks and support ultra fast memory (which will give you more FPS and slightly faster rendering too)

the best mobo, feature wise is the ASRock 970 Performance. Simply a beast.

 

i would personally suggest the ASRock 970m PRO3 + 2400MHz 8GB DDR3 memory.

i improved your setup. the Elite 210 is ok, but the N200 has better support for watercooling at a lower cost. Also, its a good case

PSU changed to OCZ, which is quality stuff too, but costs 16 bucks less.... it may not be 80+ gold, but with the setup you are going for 80+ gold would be overkill
