RAM Color

Go to solution Solved by FruitBasketSilex,

and there is no messing with thermal grease or anything like that?

(link to vid would be awesome)

There is no thermal grease, there might be thermal pads on the heatspreader that make contact with the actual ram chips, but those don't need replacing or anything

There should be screws on your ram, or some way of holding it together, just find out how the heatspreader attaches, and figure out how you're going to get them off.

So, i currently have 4 4GB DDIMMs of DDR3 1600 Mhz RAM (Ripjaw X Series from G.Skill).

I, over the holidays, wish to swap my case and give my build a green theme.

Currently, all my parts are pretty much black, except the RAM.

Should i just sell and get 2x http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-memory-cml8gx3m2a1600c9g

OR

should i paint them?

if painting, can i remove the red casing, paint it, and put it back on? or just tape-and-spray?

EDIT: RAM is red, should've mentioned that

Well, with an i7, GTX 1080, Full tower and flashy lights, it can obviously only be for one thing:

Why not go with some Hyper X Fury Black RAM?, Its black and white and requires no painting.

Im sure you can paint the ram, you can probably do it (assuming it has a case over it) by taping up exposed parts and going to it. Just cover any pieces of the ram boards or connectors and paint away!

right, i know this.

but rather than tape-and-spray, can i remove the casing, paint the casing, and put it back on the board?

That is indeed how it is done, and how Linus did it.

Just pop them off, paint them, and pop them back on.
