Linux Mint in Virtualbox

Long story short I'm getting into hacktivism to spark my

interest and give me purpose for the time being. Also,

learning this stuff has been cool so far.

I've installed Oracle VM Virtualbox on my windows 10 pc,

downloaded and added the extension.

I've also downloaded a copy of Linux Mint.

How do I install Mint in the virtual machine? Do I need

to create a bootable usb drive?

thanks

sincerely, noob.

AMD FX 8350, ASUS Sabertooth 990fx R2.0, Crucial Ballistix Tracer 4x4GB 1866, PNY GTX780, Corsair HX850, Phantom 630, Samsung 120GB SSD, WD Black 2TB HDD

Rest in peace, legend.

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, Gigabyte RTX 3070, 32GB RAM, 4TB Samsung SSD, and a crippling depression that causes me to buy games and not play them lol

You should be able to use the ISO on the virtual drive. Do the following:

  1. Go to the settings of the Linux Mint Virtual Box
  2. Go to STORAGE
  3. Under "controller", beside the Optical Drive pull down, Click the DVD icon
  4. Choose a Virtual Optical Disk File
  5. Select the ISO for Mint
  6. Start the machine, follow the screen to install

Right. Buuuuut I don't have an optical drive so you're saying I do in fact need to create a usb drive with the Mint iso on it, correct?

Ok that got me started, but ran into an error:

AMD-V is disabled in the BIOS (or by the host OS) (VERR_SVM_DISABLED).

Result Code:

E_FAIL (0x80004005)

Component:

ConsoleWrap

Interface:

IConsole {872da645-4a9b-1727-bee2-5585105b9eed}

Any Ideas?

Sounds like you need to enable virtualization on your AMD in your BIOS. Check for AMD-V in the bios on your PC

Keep us updated. I love these kinds of play toys. I have been into VirtualBox a lot. When you get the time, put OS X on a VM. Its a good time.

Strangely it was enabled but I unenabled and re enabled and now it works lol. turn it off and turn it back on....

Linux Mint appears to be running in VM but it's just a blank page with the black backgrounded Linux Mint logo and when

I click inside the VM my mouse isn't working. I don't have any way to verify that mint is actually running lol. never used Mint before either so that doesn't help 0.0

Give it a minute. How much ram did you give the VM?

Yeah I wanted to make sure that wouldn't be a problem lul. Nope just the what I presume is a loading screen or a frozen desktop of Linux Mint

You can try that yes. I like linux mint and have had it work before as well. Maybe your ISO was bad? Try Ubuntu and see what happens.
