I know it runs at 3.5ghz and has an iGPU, but does it turbo?

I'm choosing between it and the 1231, and I'm wondering which one is better... If the e3-1246 turbos, then it might be worth the $40 more to buy it, but only if it turbos to 4ghz or something.. if it doesn't turbo at all, then there would be no point in getting it other than to waste money on an iGPU and 100mhz more clocks.. (not counting turbo of 1231)

But first, let's talk about parallel universes.

With no onboard graphics.

Still, for 40$ more than a 1231v3 you can get an i7. With onboard graphics.

e3-1231v3 is 3.8 turbo with no igpu

e3-1246v3 is 3.9 turbo with igpu

Unless the 1246 is a deal at the time, I would rather get the 1231... I don't see it being worth the extra 100mhz and an iGPU I might use once or twice for a week or so, if I ever do sell all my graphics cards to get a better one.

Edit: hey wait a second, can't you use the iGPU to record video with no performance hit? "intel quick sync"?

You asked for a comparison, I told you, there's no difference. 2% is completely irrelevant. You should ask yourself, "Do I need an iGPU and am I willing to pay 40$ extra for it"

Yes, But newer Nvidia cards have shadow play and newish AMD cards have VCE so you can get low/no performance loss encoding pretty much anywhere with a new pc.
