If your onboard motherboard's audio doesn't suck, there shouldn't be a largely noticeable difference between that and other solutions for plugging in your headphones. 

 

There's no way you don't have a budget. If budget were not a problem, the best voice microphones would be things like the Sony C800g or Neumann U87, but I don't think you'd realistically be willing to spend that much. In general, microphones that use XLR connectors will be better than USB microphones. Condenser microphone options include the Rode NT1 and CAD M179, and dynamic microphone options include the Monoprice dynamic microphone. XLR microphones have to be paired with an audio interface like the Steinberg UR22 or Focusrite 2i2, or their little brothers, the UR12 or Focusrite Solo. These also have 1/4" headphone outputs which are good and remove any need for a DAC. 

 

If using an audio interface is out of your budget, though, then something like Rode Podcaster would be your best USB option, followed by the Blue Yeti and Samson Meteor.
